Set in 1828 Edinburgh, this 1985 historical horror film follows a respected medical lecturer whose pursuit of anatomical knowledge collides with strict laws governing the use of human remains. As legal cadavers become scarce, his school quietly turns to paid suppliers operating on the city’s fringes. When a pair of desperate men discover how valuable fresh bodies can be, the arrangement begins to spiral out of control. A young assistant grows uneasy as the source of the specimens becomes increasingly suspicious, especially when violence reaches someone close to him. Public outrage mounts as the true cost of progress is slowly revealed.
