oan Mitchell is a 39-year-old suburban Pittsburgh housewife increasingly dissatisfied with her marriage and domestic life. When she and a friend visit mysterious neighbor Marion Hamilton for a Tarot reading, Joan discovers that Marion practices witchcraft and leads a local coven. With her husband frequently away on business and her daughter preoccupied with college, Joan begins studying spells and rituals herself. Her growing involvement in witchcraft coincides with an affair, disturbing recurring nightmares, and changes that begin to disrupt her previously conventional suburban existence.
