In a near-future Australia where fuel shortages and social collapse have pushed civilization toward chaos, police officer Max Rockatansky patrols the highways for the underfunded Main Force Patrol. As violent motorcycle gangs terrorize isolated communities and challenge what remains of law and order, Max struggles with the growing brutality of his work and its effect on his family. His attempts to step away from the violence become increasingly difficult as a ruthless gang led by the unpredictable Toecutter brings the conflict closer to home.
