In the movie "Gargoyles" (1972), Dr. Mercer Boley, an anthropologist portrayed by Cornel Wilde, and his daughter Diana, played by Jennifer Salt, stumble upon a hidden tribe of ancient gargoyles in the American Southwest. The gargoyles, portrayed by Scott Glenn and others, are remnants of a prehistoric civilization that has managed to remain concealed from the modern world.
As the Boleys delve deeper into the mystery of these ancient beings, they discover the gargoyles' existence is at risk when they are threatened by human intrusion. Grayson Hall plays Mrs. Parks, a local curator who assists them in their quest, and Bernie Casey portrays James Reeger, a police officer entangled in the conflict with the gargoyles.
The movie escalates into a suspenseful battle between humans and these fearsome creatures as the Boleys try to understand their origins and preserve their existence.
